Committee Profile

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is one of the many UN agencies. Dedicated to addressing international hunger, FAO ensures that all people have access to high-quality foods. FAO, founded in 1945 alongside the UN, specifically addresses Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number one, which is no poverty. FAO has a total of 195 members, the EU and 194 countries. FAO operates in 130 countries, creating a strong impact in millions of lives. With the help of the UN, FAO has created legal frameworks such as the Right to Food Guidelines or the World Food Security Compact that has supported individuals internationally. On top of attempting to eradicate hunger, FAO is also used as a platform to promote sustainable management of our environment such as water, forests, and land. The Food and Agriculture Organization conducts research studies, offers technical assistance, and provides policy recommendations to governmental bodies.
